Maïre and Tiboulen de Maïre
Maïre island is 142 meters high. It is located at the very south of the Bay of Marseille. Tiboulen de Maïre island is just next to it. It is also named « La Tortue » (The Turtle).
In this area the coast draws a curve and passes from the west to the south all the way to Cassis. Therefore there is a small change in the climate, because of the winds and currents exposure. It is not unusual to have a choppy sea in the bay of Marseille, but very calm in the calanques, or the contrary. Because of its strategic location, there are many buildings, especially blockhouses in front of the small lighthouses and up to the top of the island. A small flock of goats, almost wild, lived there for decades before being taken away for ecological reasons. It is forbidden to walk on the island, but in the sea you will find many beautiful scuba diving spots, with many wrecks, coral caves and beautiful drops.
