Commercial Port
In 1844, a law allowed to built a pond in La Joliette, then others.
Now there are more than 30 km of quays protected by a 10 km seawall.
It is the first harbor in France in tons of merchandise. It has 10 dry-docks, built bigger and bigger with the evolution of the boats.
The biggest oil tanker in the world has already been in the biggest one. It is the Batilus: 415 meters long, 60 meters large, 42 meters high and 77meter at the top.
It could carry 550 000 tons of oil.
