La Cayolle district

La Cayolle area is ideally situated along the national park in the 9th district, between the city and one of the most beautiful calanques of Marseille, the calanque of Sormiou. There is the water treatment plant of Marseille that treats wastewater before pouring it sadly in the sea near the calanque of Cortiou. Next to the station, there is a parking and the start of the road that join the col then the calanque of Sormiou. The neighbourhood was renovated this last years but the delinquency still present. This is why it is recommended not to leave valuables in car or on the beach.

Route information

  • Bus: To access la Cayolle district, take the bus n°23 from "Rond point du Prado" until the bus stop "La Cayolle". To join Sormiou, continue by foot for about 800 meters until the start of Sormiou road.
  • Calanques reachable: Sormiou and l'Escu
  • Route: From the parking of la Cayolle and depending on the period of the year, it's possible to access to the calanque of Sormiou by car (see when to go to the calanques). From here, the way to go to the calanque of Sormiou starts by walking down the road crossing the hill (Only for the brave!).
